Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada spoke to reporters Wednesday morning decrying insurance giant AIG's decision to spend $165 million of federal bailout money on executive bonuses.
"How could they?" Reid asked and sobbed before a pool of stunned reporters. "Taking money from "Mane Street. I've been getting my hair cut there for almost a decade and I can tell you they are decent, respectable, hard-working Americans."
When told, it was Main Street not Mane Street, Reid stiffened and replied, "Well that's very different then, isn't it?" and vowed to make sure all potholes on the roadway were fixed soon.
Speaking at the same news conference, Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, announced that the House Democrats had arrived at consensus on a bill to change the name of the Capitol to Capital One. "After all," Pelosi joked, "We are spending a whole bunch of money up there."
Later, Smith-Barney-Franks (D) Massachusetts, clarified the speaker's statement saying the name change better reflected the attitude of the Democratic House.
