Dodd Reveals Secrets of Congressional Sidestep

On Friday afternoon, before assembled journalists, Sen. Chris Dodd (D) Connecticut, revealed his latest sidestep routines. Dodd explained that the sidestep, also known as the "fudge" and the "dodge" was called "duck and evade" during the Kennedy presidency. "Just a little history for you youngsters," the senior senator from Connecticut chortled, then rolled up his sleeves and bouncing around the podium like a boxer hollered out, "All right, somebody give the senior senator a question." The reporting pool quickly obliged the senator shouting out, "Senator Dodd, did you secretly write in the provision that allowed AIG bonuses to be paid?"

Never breaking stride, the senator produced a top hat and cane and began dancing to the Gene Kelley classic, 'Singing in the Rain'. "I can't hear you," Dodd tipped an open palm to his ear. "It's raining!'

"Senator Dodd, what about your house in Ireland?" A young newsman hollered.

Discarding the hat and cane, Dodd pulled a pair of thick, black-rimmed glasses from his suit jacket. "Huh?" he said, "Senator Dodd? I don't know any Senator Dodd. I'm Clark Kent."

"Senator, is it true AIG gave your campaign hundreds of thousands of dollars?"

Never batting an eye, the seasoned Washington Senator dropped his head into his hands and began to weep in a perfect Junior Soprano voice, "Leave me alone, I'm just an old man."

After a rousing applause from his audience, Dodd announced he is currently working on a "Curly" routine. "Get this," the senator laughed, "I get on the floor . . . on my side . . . and go around in a circle muttering whoo-whoo-whoo."
